After yesterday's game the Marlins made a roster move.
The Marlins optioned right-hander Yusmeiro Petit back to Triple A Albuquerque (N.M.) on Sunday and recalled right-hander Chris Resop to take his place.
Petit, who made one start with the Marlins, has mainly been used in long relief, and the club wants him to get more regular work.
The Venezuelan is 1-1 with an 8.68 ERA in 18 2/3 big-league innings in two stints with the Marlins.
This is a good move by the team. Petit is a starter and he needs to get more work than he was getting with the big club.
Since being sent down Resop hasn't allowed a run and has only given up one hit.
Given how well the starters are doing at going at least five innings or deeper, the team doesn't have a consistent need for long relievers at this point. The club does, however, have a need for short relievers. Resop should fit that bill very nicely.
