Johnson Wins NL Rookie of the Month for May

While it comes as no surprise to me, Josh Johnson was awarded the National League Rookie of the Month for May.

Florida Marlins starting pitcher Josh Johnson, who compiled the lowest ERA (1.96) among rookie starting pitchers, has been voted National League Rookie of the Month.
Johnson's 31 strikeouts during the month also led all rookie pitchers. He started six games for the Marlins and finished with a 3-1 record. Josh pitched 36.2 innings and allowed 26 hits, 11 runs, eight earned, one home run and 11 walks. The right-handed pitcher struck out a career-high eight batters on May 26th vs. New York Mets. The rookie lowered his ERA to 2.42 this season, lowest among Marlins starters.

Josh Johnson will receive a specially-designed award for being voted National League Rookie of the Month for May.

Way to go Josh!

The award is most richly deserved.

Josh edged out another Marlin for the honor.

Dan Uggla (.356, 3 HR, 18 RBI)

Danny put in a fine showing but it wasn't to be.  Oogie's month for the award will be sometime in the future.  But still, being the good teammate and all around good guy he had this to say:

''Josh is a great pitcher and he deserves it,'' Uggla said.

Our team may not be striking fear into the hearts of our opponents at this point but the accolades are starting to roll in.
