In 2002 the brain trust of the Marlins were preparing for their first pick in the draft.
There was a split between the draft team as to which player to take. Some of them wanted to draft Jeremy Hermida, while others thought Scott Kazmir would make the best choice.
It took the Marlins a long time to reach their final decision. I assume Beinfest had the final say and Hermida was the first round choice for the Fish.
I am guessing it came down to: flip a coin - we're a winner either way.
Kazmir was selected by the Mets who traded him to the Devil Rays two years later. Which ranks right up there with the Marlins trading rule 5 selection, Johan Santana, to the Twins.
