Carlos is Done

As suspected, Martinez's season appears to have to come to an end.

Martinez, on the disabled list for the second time this season, will have his sore elbow examined by team doctors. He also has an appointment with Dr. James Andrews on July 5 in Birmingham, Ala.

If Andrews finds a torn ligament, there's a chance Martinez will have surgery the next day.

Asked if he thought Martinez would pitch again this season, Girardi said: 'I'd kind of be surprised. He missed two months before, and it's the same injury."

While not surprising it is unwelcome news.  If he ends up having surgery, it could be a couple of years before he returns to full speed.  With any luck, he won't need it and can be back throwing strong next season.

I'm sure Fishfan knows more about this than I do.
