Neither German nor right-hander Todd Wellemeyer, who will also be designated for assignment today, traveled with the team to Colorado on Thursday. Wellemeyer's place on the roster is expected to be filled by right-hander Carlos Martinez, who had his second successful rehab appearance in four days at Single A Jupiter on Wednesday, throwing a scoreless inning.
My guess is, pitching coach Rick Kranitz watched a bullpen session or two and decided the German wasn't up to speed, if you will.
As far as Wellemeyer is concerned I have conflicting reports. Some say such as the above article and Maverick that he will be DFA. Others report that he is out of options and will be released.
I'm sure I could do some research and find out whether Todd has any options left but I would rather wait until later today to find out.
Never underestimate the Zen-like quality of laziness. It has always worked for me in the past.
