Transaction News

The Marlins are going to be making additions to the bullpen.

Right-hander Carlos Martinez pitched a perfect inning during a rehabilitation start in Jupiter on Wednesday, and after their game with the Giants the Marlins told reliever Todd Wellemeyer he would be released to make room for Martinez to return from the disabled list.

Wellemeyer, acquired in a March trade with the Cubs, is out of options. He was 0-2 with a 5.48 ERA in 21 1/3 innings with the Marlins.

The blurb doesn't explicitly mention when Martinez will rejoin the club but it would fair to presume the transaction will take place in order for Carlos to make the road trip.

I wish Wellemeyer the best but his stay with the franchise didn't workout the way anyone wanted it to.  It will be good to have Martinez back and hopefully the club will work him in slowly in order that he can get his feet back on the ground.

In other news,

Following Wednesday night's game, the Florida Marlins purchased the contract of LHP Taylor Tankersley and added him to the 25-man roster.

Tankersley, who threw a hitless eighth inning on Wednesday night against Tennessee, was notified of the move minutes after the 4-1 loss to the Smokies.

It makes sense to have a situational lefty in the pen but I can not confirm this transaction.  If it did happen, I have no idea who was sent down.  I can guess, but I sure don't know.

Maverick, Photi do either one of you have anything confirming this?  Cause I sure don't.
