Mitre to the 60-Day DL

I don't care how the club tries to spin this, this isn't good.

Sergio Mitre's shoulder injury apparently is more serious than originally thought, and the Marlins pitcher was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Friday.

That means the right-hander, who started the second game of the season for the Marlins and is 1-4 with a 4.89 ERA, won't be available until after the All-Star break.

Mitre left his May 12 start in Pittsburgh after throwing only three pitches and was placed on the 15-day DL with what the Marlins are describing as right shoulder inflammation.

''I think we are being conservative here,'' Marlins general manager Larry Beinfest said. ``We want to make sure.''

I understand that the Marlins needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster but sending a pitcher to the 60-day DL can be a big deal.

Players go on the 60-day DL and are never heard from again.  Hopefully, that isn't the case in this situation.  But it is hard to believe that right shoulder inflammation is the whole story to his injury.  Maybe it is, but something doesn't sound right.
