For as to why Pierre wasn't traded before the deadline, you really need to ask Jim Hendry that question. Maybe he thought he could resign him or possibly, as was the case for Soriano, the deals offered were so crappy that it didn't make any sense to accept one.
Nonetheless, the reason the Marlins didn't or wouldn't make the trade for Pierre for the players listed above is this: Beinfest isn't stupid. There is no way the Marlins would give up three pitching prospects for the likes of Pierre.
Would I mind seeing Pierre in center field again at JRS wearing a Marlins uniform? Well, no. But if three pitching prospects is the cost - then I would mind. I realize he/she is just throwing out names but that one was never going to happen.
