Batboy Suspended

"It's kind of ridiculous that you get a 10-game suspension for steroids and a six-game suspension for milk, Penny said.

Sadly, this story just won't go away. Rafael Palmeiro and his positive steroids test have faded into Bolivia. Rumors of other superstars testing positive for performance enhancing drugs never quite made it to the front page.

Earlier this week we read about a bet that Brad Penny made with a batboy:

Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny bet a batboy $500 on Sunday that he couldn't drink a gallon of milk in under an hour without throwing up. Some of Penny's teammates kicked in on the wager, raising the ante to more than $1,000.

While $1,000 was apparently very tempting to the young man, he obviously didn't understand the science of the wager as well as Mr. Penny. As you probably expect, the boy was able to drink the milk, but was not able to hold it down.

Today we learn that the batboy has been suspended for his actions. I'm not exactly sure what the offense is, but I'm guessing that the Fish frown upon batboys making it into the newspaper for losing (or winning) bets (especially those that were made with opponents - even if they are former Marlins).

The unidentified batboy will not be allowed to work the upcoming, six-game homestand at Dolphins Stadium against the Cardinals and Mets from Aug. 29 through Sept. 4.

There must be more to this story. Otherwise, it's really stupid. Let the poor kid do his job. He already learned his lesson.
