Favorite Marlin Contest: Round Two, Day One

Welcome to the second round. Now it gets interesting. The field has been pared from 64 Marlins to just 32. Here's an updated bracket.

If you're just joining us, check out the entry from Day One, which gives something of an overview for the whole process.

We're changing up the format a little here, and hopefully that will make things a little easier for folks. For the next four days, we'll go through each bracket - one bracket per day. Today we'll start with the teal (early) years. Hopefully this will allow everyone to think of the teal Fish of old. Tomorrow we'll look at the 97 Champs, on Saturday the Ugly Years (98-02), and on Sunday we'll wrap up Round Two with the 2003 Champions.

After all of that fun, we're going to take Monday off. Monday will be a busy day (as the Fish have that make-up doubleheader - so keep that in mind as you'll have double the picks to make). On Tuesday we'll resume the Favorite Marlin contest with the first portion of round three (the Sweet Sixteen).

Yesterday's Results
Four more advanced to the second round yesterday: Charlie Hough (teal), Edgar Renteria (97 champs), Luis Castillo (ugly years), and Luis Castillo (03 champs).

Today's Matchups

Number One
Jeff Conine vs. Charlie Hough - Mr. Marlin vs. the Opening Day starter. This is a tough matchup. Conine spent many quality years in teal, and even won the All-Star Game MVP award in 1995. Hough finished out the last two years of his long career with the Marlins.

Number Two
Alex Arias vs. Bryan Harvey - Do you go with the team's first super-utility man or the team's first fireman? A tough call indeed.

Number Three
Orestes Destrade vs. Chuck Carr - Two completely different personalities here. Do you go with the local hero or the hot dog with some flash?

Number Four
Robb Nen vs. Gary Sheffield - Two guys who are probably known amongst even Marlins fans for their exploits elsewhere, but who both contributed significantly during the early years of the franchise.

Who is your favorite Marlin?

Number One: Jeff Conine vs. Charlie Hough
Number Two: Alex Arias vs. Bryan Harvey
Number Three: Orestes Destrade vs. Chuck Carr
Number Four: Robb Nen vs. Gary Sheffield
