Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Cardinals (8/1)

New, 132 comments

We're going to a new format for the open threads from now on (at least as long as there aren't too many complaints about it). Gone are the start time, team logos, and starting pitching matchups. Basically I'm doing this because lining up the logos and starting pitchers takes some time each day and I don't think it adds any value for anyone. I'm guessing that most of you (everyone, right?) are checking out the team's official site, a major sports site, and/or your newspaper for the Marlins' starter and their opponent's.

I hope that's not a big deal, but if it is, say so.

Personally, I'd rather have a little commentary to open up the open thread and, of course, the ichthyomancy table.

So here it is for today:

Starters: Ismael Valdez (0-0, 1.80) vs. Jason Marquis (9-8, 3.77)

The Marlins take their hot streak into St. Louis, where the Cardinals have been hot all year. After losing the homestand opener to the Pirates last week, the Marlins went on a pretty nice little run. If they can continue their winning ways in St. Louis (starting tonight at 8:10 - and tonight's game will be on ESPN), I may be back to believing in this team's playoff chances.

Don't forget to vote today (see thread below).

Photi has a nice piece up about Jeff Conine's new restaurant.
