Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Nationals at Marlins (7/30)

TIME: 1:20 @ JRS

                                vs.
       NATIONALS                                       MARLINS
John Patterson (4-2, 2.58)                       A.J. Burnett (7-6, 3.48)

It felt like the crowd knew that last night's game mattered. There was a palpable tension and sense of excitement in the air during the 9th inning. The crowd was on its feet throughout the inning. That may have been helped by Todd Jones' new intro video, but I think it was really driven by the Nats being ahead of the Fish in the standings and the fact that (despite their poor play) the Marlins are still right in the playoff hunt.

Day baseball today, so that means it's going to be hot. Assuming that I don't melt, I'll report after the pre-game tailgate, game, and post-game tailgate.

The trade deadline is at 4 PM tomorrow. Will this be A.J.'s last start? Or will he be gone before he can make it?

In addition to making your ichthyomancy picks, make sure you VOTE! today.

If you'd like to help out with the descriptions for tomorrow's (Sunday's) players, here's who we'll be looking at: (teal) Chuck Carr and Andre Dawson, (97) Charles Johnson and Luis Castillo, (Ugly) Alex Gonzalez and Antonio Alfonseca, and (03) Josh Beckett (already have text from Jsprt) and Todd Hollandsworth.

EDIT: Today's matchups are up (see below), so vote away.

Also, I've neglected to mention it, but Delgado has some sort of an elbow problem (thus he hasn't played) and Gonzalez has some similar malady (thus only the PH AB last night - was that the first of his career?)
