Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Diamonbacks (7/18)

The future is now as the Fish open a three game set in a futuristic ballpark with a starting pitcher that we didn't expect to see in the Majors this year. But don't think that Vargas' 0.00 ERA is so scintillating simply because he hasn't pitched in the Bigs. He has - one whole inning. And yes, that's more than 5% of the innings he logged in Double-A. Hopefully Vargas' mini-outing on Thursday won't be enough for the DBacks to have built a scouting report off of.

Off the field, rumors abound regarding trades. If Lowell isn't in the starting lineup tonight, chatter will increase. If Encarnacion isn't in the lineup, that will dial up the speculation even further. Isn't tonight A.J.'s night to chart pitches (since he starts tomorrow)? Sometimes we get a shot of that in the dugout (and the announcers talk about it). It will be interesting to see if we get that tonight.
