Our friends and sponsors at RICHCOASTSPORTS.COM chime in:
Marlins manager Jack McKeon is always a threat to overwork his starting pitchers, but the starters are doing a better job of pitching to contact and taking advantage of the Marlins' strong defense. LHP Dontrelle Willis and RHPs Josh Beckett and A.J. Burnett averaged a mere 106 pitches in their five complete games. Burnett struck out only eight in his two complete games, but got 32 groundball outs. New pitching coach Mark Wiley should prove a voice of reason for McKeon if the pitch counts start to rise.
