Say it ain't so Joe

I was sad to read this news.

The Marlins tendered contracts to 36 of the 37 unsigned players on their 40-man roster Tuesday, the lone exception being infielder Joe Dillon, whose rights were sold to the Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese Central League.

Dillon, a nine-year minor-leaguer, made his big-league debut for the Marlins last summer and hit .167 with one home run in 36 at-bats.

Dillon had a fantastic year while playing for the Isotopes putting up very impressive numbers.  Joe maintained a .360 BA with 24 HR, 72 RBI and an OPS of 1.090.

He wasn't given the opportunity to shine with the big club during his May call-up but he did leave an indelible mark on the 2005 season.  All of us who saw it still remember it to this day:

It was May 24 versus the Phillies, click on Delgado's game-winning RBI.
