Rookies of the Year Named

While it wasn't a surprise, no one with Marlins ties (current or past), won the AL or NL Rookie of the Year Award. The winners are the A's Huston Street (AL) and The Phillies' Ryan Howard (NL). The former overcame an oddly-spelled name and the latter overcame being stuck behind a slugger with an eight-figure salary.

What's most impressive about this year's rookie crop is that there were probably nearly a half dozen guys in both leagues who would have merited serious consideration for the award in normal years. There's a lot of young talent in the majors. We can only hope that the likes of Howard, and Jeff Francoeur (and all the other Braves) find their way out of the NL East so that the Marlins don't have to keep facing them.
