A new pitching coach has joined the staff.
Rick Kranitz was hired Friday as the Florida Marlins' pitching coach after spending the past 22 seasons in the Chicago Cubs' organization.
Kranitz was pitching coach for the Cubs' Triple-A Iowa affiliate the past two seasons.
He has spent most of his time with the Cubs in the minor league system. The only time he was up in the bigs was in 2002 as the bullpen coach for the Cubs.
At least he isn't the one responsible for mismanaging their Major League staff where everyone ends up on the DL with arm problems.
In other news, the Marlins added pitchers: right-hander Allen Baxter, left-hander Adam Bostick, right-hander Jose Garcia and right-hander Carlos Martinez to the 40-man roster in preparations for the Rule V draft.
