Book Club

Since it's the offseason and since Wiggins has dropped the ball on a Strat-o-Matic league, some of us are left with more free time than we had during the baseball season. Some of us (read "Mike") also have a gaping hole on our bookshelves.

Don't get me wrong, I read a lot. Pretty much any new or classic book about baseball that's available can be found in my house. Really. It's true. But in terms of general classics, I've been pretty deficient over the years (including through school - when I was pretty creative about getting out of reading things that I was supposed to read).

To help counter that, Carolina and I were talking about starting something of a book club. If anyone is interested, you are welcome to join. The first book we're going to read is Plato's Republic. You can pick up a copy at any library. Barnes and Noble even has it in their new classics collection for about $6.

We're not sure how it will work. Maybe we'll talk about the book using a diary (I think the comments, if used appropriately, could be pretty interesting) or maybe we'll handle it via email. It's all kind of up for discussion.

I'd like to stay with more "serious" books for the most part, but as future Moneyballs and the like come out (particularly during the season), maybe we'll hit on those too.

What do you think? If you're interested, leave a comment.
