In just a few hours we'll know who won the National League's Cy Young Award for 2005. While I know that just about everyone who is reading this is hoping that Dontrelle Willis is the winner, we may not get our wish.
Popular sentiment seems to favor St. Louis' Chris Carpenter. There's also some support for Roger Clemens. Still Dontrelle could be the guy. We'll see soon enough.
And no, it's not just us who are wondering who will win the award. A quick scan of today's headlines reveals some uncertainty:
-
Dontrelle Should Win Cy Young in a Close Vote - hometown paper
-
Carpenter favourite in NL Cy Young Award Race - freaking Canadians. This is why you don't have an NL team anymore!
-
Willis hopes to polish up an NL Cy Young award - another hometown headline
-
Carpenter, not Rocket, should win NL Cy Young - someone wrote their headline before the end of the regular season
-
Willis, Carpenter tough to separate - a Miami writer in a different paper is non-commital
-
Carpenter tops Cy hopefuls - I wouldn't think they'd talk about baseball in New Hampshire. Who knew?
- Losses tell Willis' tale; Carpenter should win - Must. Stop. Sniffing. Glue.
