Alderson said he spoke with Hoffman briefly since the offer was pulled, but that was a few weeks ago.
"As far I know," Alderson said, "(General Manager) Kevin (Towers) and Trevor's agent have not spoken for some time."

Padres Shortstop Shopping
Padres.com: Padres prepared to find shortstop GM Towers says he has interest in veterans Eckstein, Vizquel
"By next week, we would like to get that done," Towers said. "That's probably priority No. 1 now for us, getting shortstop protection. We don't want to end up empty-handed there."
Towers mentioned he is looking at Vizquel and Eckstein.
"There are a couple of other guys, too," Towers said. "We've got three or four options."
Currently, the Padres have Luis Rodriguez -- who filled in admirably for Greene during the final two months of the season after Greene broke his left hand.
So the question is who do you want as starting short stop? I still like Rodriguez but I think I'm the only one.

And those close to Hendry expect him to restart the Peavy talks with the San Diego Padres that broke down a month ago at the winter meetings.

Baseball was invented in the UK?
This BBC article is from September but I'm just seeing it for the first time now. William Bray wrote of the game in his diaries when he was a teenager back in 1755.
"It contains a reference to him playing baseball. What intrigued me is he is playing it with a load of young ladies."
Nice.

Because our minor league system continues to mature, we have less of a need for the veteran AAA player who provides insurance at the Major League level - we are quite comfortable with the idea of many of our young kids filling those roles. Therefore, we have been able to focus on players we believe have a chance to compete for a job on the Major League team.

"I like Ced a lot," Towers said. "He reminds me of (former Twins and Cubs regular) Jacque Jones, with better on-base percentage." Notes Asked if the Padres have interest in center fielder Andruw Jones, Towers said "probably not." In return for a restructured contract that frees up money for 2009, the Dodgers are granting Jones free agency.

Brewers' Macha contacts Hoffman
So it is possible! Look at that, all you have to do to contact Hoffman is... actually try. Amazing!
When Macha learned that general manager Doug Melvin was talking again with the agent for the all-time saves leader, he asked Melvin for permission to call Hoffman himself. Hoffman was vacationing with his family in Hawaii, but returned that call on Saturday.
"I gave him a compliment on his career, and his professionalism," Macha said Tuesday
Macha did something our entire Front Office couldn't do, but let's be honest they didn't want to contact him
Remember when Alderson said that the Padres would make an effort to contact Hoffman? He was asked why somebody didn't just pick up the phone and call him, instead of "back channel efforts".
Alderson says that his point is well taken and "more direct efforts have been made and will be made."
Good times.

Milano, 36, will marry David Bugliari, an agent at the Creative Arts Agency. The couple have been dating for more than a year.
Take that Dodgers, she's not marrying any of you!

In fact, I mentioned a funny story about that in my book. When I was trying to figure out whom to pick as the most overrated reliever of all time, I asked a retired starter which closer he'd pick. And he answered: "All of them." It was a funny line, but obviously, he didn't mean it. Mariano Rivera belongs in the HOF. Anybody doubt that? Goose Gossage belongs. Trevor Hoffman will belong. But the save IS the most overrated stat in baseball, so your point's otherwise well taken.
