Miguel Olivo's goin on a date

Today, I came home from my run- it was a good run, I felt a lot better than I did on Friday- and sat down, and turned my away message on AIM off. Why am I tell you this? What does it have to do with Migel O? I'm just trying to meet the word requirement.

Ichthyomancy dissected

Since dissecting ichthyomancy seems to be the hot new thing to do, I thought I'd give you all a look at how the leader of the pack gets things done.

PLAYER OVERVIEW
I have picked twelve players over the course of this season. Four have been pitchers, and the rest position players. My picks break down like this. Of my 52 points, 23 have come from player selections, so they make up about 44% of my points.

Amezega: 0/1 (0%) Only picked him once, recently, as he had been doing hot.
Borchard: 0/3 (0%) Picked him when he first came to the team, as I liked him. I've wised up since.
Cabrera: 4/20 (20%) Cabrera has proved to be Fool's Gold for me this season- maybe I need to cut back on picking him...
Jacobs: 0/2 (0%) Picked him because I thought he was due earlier this year. Guess not that early.
Johnson: 3/5 (60%) Johnson has proved to be a solid pick for me this year, despite going up against many Cy Young winners and Hall of Famers.
Moehler: 0/1 (0%) Don't know what's up with him. Or me for picking him.
Nolasco: 0/1 (0%) Picked earlier in the year, but think he could be a good pick for down the road.
Olivo: 0/1 (0%) Would have been a better pick lately, as he's heated up along with the Fish.
Ramirez: 4/11 (36%) Hasn't been a bad pick, but hasn't been nearly as strong lately, hence most of these points coming early on.
Uggla: 1/6 (17%) Don't know why I didn't pick him when he was hot; Most of these selection came earlier in the year. Definately a keeper once he returns at full health.
Willingham: 1/3 (33%) Picked early in the year.
Willis: 10/13 (77%) Talk about a stud. Willis has been as solid as solid can be so far this year. I've only forgone picking him twice this year, and that was a mistake.

ATTENDANCE OVERVIEW:
From attendance, I've earned 12 of my 52 points, of about 23% of them. I've hit on 12 of 68 picks, or about 18% of them. Dolphin Stadium has been kinder to me than away game sites. I've earned 7 points there, 58% of my attendance points. The average guess for those games is 12,370. On the road, I've only earned 42% of my points. The average guess for road games I've won is about 33,670.

AAB OVERVIEW:
AAB has been my weakest area, as I've scored only 11 of my 52 points of about 22% of them. Lately, many of the picks I've hit on have been pitching based. Four of my 11 points have come on pitching picks, of 36% of them. Six have come on hitting picks, or about 55%. The final point came on an outcome guess.

So, that's my breakdown. And I'm out of things to say.

Open Thread and Heat-thyomancy: Heat at Mavericks (6/8)

Today, the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks begin their quest for an NBA title.
This is the first Finals apperance for each team.
Miami has a huge edge in Finals experience; Shaq has taken the trip with both the Lakers and Magic, and has some hardware to show for it. Same with Pat Riley. Gary Payton has two series under his belt, but is of course ringless due to one Michael Jordan and the 2004 Detroit Pistons.
Dirk Nowitzki has manhandled Udonis Haslem this season. Look for him to have a big series while the Heat try to find the best coverage for him.
These games will be determined by the team that controls the tempo. If the Heat can slow the tempo down and play a good half court game, they have a good chance of winning. However, if the Mavericks can run the ball, the Heat will be in trouble.
Another factor? Dwyane Wade's illness:

"Feeling better. Finally trying to get this virus out of me," Wade said, his voice sounding much huskier than usual because of the illness. "It's something that I've got to deal with. Decided to get back out there and get my conditioning going today and a little bit tomorrow, also, before the game." Coverage begins tonight at 8 p.m. on ABC.
Feel free to play around and leave picks ichthyomancy style. A note on attendance- Game five against the Suns saw 20,977 people filling the American Airlines Center.

More exciting prom stories!

Yes, tis that time of year for us younger Fishstripers. The time for approaching attractive young females, for renting tuxedos, for getting so low your legs hurt for days, and, perhaps most importantly, getting rip-roaring drunk. Yes, friends, prom time is here.
;
Here I am with my lovely friends Mandi and Ashley pre-prom. My date was off at states, so these two had to suffice.
;
Yucking it up for the camera. When he saw this one, jsprt stated, "How does the hot guy always end up in the middle?" Notice the firece young lady on the left- she knows Rosenthal.

Our parents eventually made us venture outside. We're standing by the pool, which we would all soon fall into. Just kidding. Jsprt and I are the ones directly left and right of the middle guy.

Thankfully, they had mercy on us and let us come back in the house to take pictures on the couch. This couch is where jsprt would pass out later in the night, but more on that later.

We crowded on the bus, and then prepared to leave for prom. Unfortunately, this is where the pictures stop. But wiggins has asked about my experience, so I shall share...

Heat at Bulls: Game 4 (4/30)

The Heat lead the series 2-1, and they're probably more than a little fired up.
Last game, James Posey was hit with a type 2 flagrant foul for leveling Kirk Hinrich, so he's sitting out today's game.
Antoine Walker and Udonis Haslem also each got hit with technical fouls.
Shaq was limited by foul troubles, and he's promised that he'll rebound for tonight's game. The Bulls look to remain perfect against the Heat on their home court during the playoffs.
Game time is at... now. Late picks are okay today. I got lazy.
Today's starting lineups:

Position Heat Bulls
Point Guard Jason Williams Ben Gordon
Shooting Guard Dwyane Wade Kirk Hinrich
Small Forward Antoine Walker Andres Nocioni
Power Forward Udonis Haslem Malik Allen
Center Shaquille O'Neal Mike Sweetney

Standings after three games are like so.

Colombo 3 -
Jsprt 2 1
Fishfan 1 2
Bobbob 1 2

Go ahead and make picks as if was ichthyomancy, except for a basketball game. If you're just starting tonight, I'll get you on the table.

Heat at Bulls: Game 3 (4/27)

The Heat are in Chicago tonight to take on the Bulls in this best of 7 series.
Miami handled the Bulls much better last game, with D-Wade dropping 21 points to go with 7 assists and five steals, and Shaq and Jason Williams each had 22 points.
Udonis Haslem has served his one game suspension, so look for him to be back. I don't know if Antoine Walker is still going to be filling in at small forward, but judging by his play, I don't see why Riley would keep him out.
Alonzo Mourning said he doesn't want to rush his return, so don't expect to see him tonight.
Starting lineups shape up like this:

Position Heat Bulls
Point Guard Jason Williams Ben Gordon
Shooting Guard Dwyane Wade Kirk Hinrich
Small Forward Antoine Walker Andres Nocioni
Power Forward Udonis Haslem Malik Allen
Center Shaquille O'Neal Mike Sweetney

The standings after one game are...

Name Ttl Pts PB
Colombo 2 -
Bobbob 1 1
Fishfan 1 1
Jsprt06 1

Go ahead and leave picks, comments, and the like. I'll update the table when I get back from the regional track meet. If you're not on the table, don't worry. I'll add you if you make picks.

Bulls at Heat: Game 2 (4/24)

The Chicago Bulls hope they'll be luckier this time.
After playing the Heat close on Saturday, and taking a 91-87 lead with 8:22 to play, the Bulls collapsed down the stretch.
Second year player Ben Gordon had this to say:

"No moral victories at this point in the season," Gordon said. "We've just got to figure out how to slow them down. I thought in the first half they had way too many fast-break points and in the key moments of the game we had some turnovers that really hurt us."

No word yet on whether Udonis Haslem will be ejected for throwing his mouthpiece at Joe Crawford.

Dwyane Wade seemed to have the Bulls solved in the second half- Flash went off for 14 in the final quarter. He finished with 30 points and 11 assists before he left with cramps.
The Heat improved their post-season against the Bulls to 2-10 with the victory.

Game time is at the Marlins-viewership-killing time of 8 P.M. Tonight's starting lineups break down like this:

>
Position Heat Bulls
Point Guard Jason Williams Ben Gordon
Shooting Guard Dwyane Wade Kirk Hinrich
Small Forward Antoine Walker Andres Nocioni
Power Forward Udonis Haslem Malik Allen
Center Shaquille O'Neal Mike Sweetney

Leave picks, comments, and the like.

Chicago Bulls at Miami Heat (Game 1)

Well, it's late in the first half, and the Bulls are sticking with the Heat. They've shut D-Wade down, Shaq is doing alright, and Udonis has been ejected.
