Game Today

The Marlins will try that traveling to Fort Lauderdale thing again and hopefully, this time, without the rain.

The Marlins starting pitcher is Scott Olsen.

The Orioles have on the slate, Jon Leicester.

Game time is 1:05 p.m.

Neither of the Marlins affiliates are broadcasting the game on radio.

Officially this time. Dallas McPherson has been optioned to AAA.

No McPherson, no Castillo...
Woody's got to make the roster then.  Good on him.

Olsen
Through 2 IP, he has yielded 6 hits and 6 earned runs.  Nice to see our starting rotation rounding into shape.  If Olsen, as the 'ace' this season's staff, has anything resembling a repeat of last season, it is going to be a looong and unpleasant summer for the Fish.
Yes, I have a prospect fetish. That's why I'm a Marlins fan.

roster
For those that follow more closely, who are we left with?

Who's going to get the call in CF?

Is there a change Amezaga plays every position this year?

Roster battles
Fredi Gonzalez answered a lot of roster questions today. I'm going to omit most of the article but here's what we have.
Gonzalez confirmed that he is leaning toward a platoon situation with Ross and the left-handed-hitting De Aza.

Gonzalez noted that Jorge Cantu will be the team's starting third baseman come Opening Day. The path was cleared for Cantu to win the job when Dallas McPherson was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

As things are shaping up now, Cantu will be backed up by Alfredo Amezaga and Jason Wood, who is expected to make the team as a backup corner infielder.

The pitching was addressed in a different article

Doug Waechter and Joe Nelson, who both have Minor League deals, project to open the season at Triple-A Albuquerque.

Interesting note.
I'm going to the game tomorrow, so I thought I'd read up on the more recent Mets outings.  It seems that today was Johan's day to start, but rather than have him face the Braves and potentially show something that Atlanta can use when the games count, Santana threw in a minor league game and a prospect took the big league game.  Tomorrow sees the same thing, as Pedro will pitch to the minor leaguers and some guy I've never heard off (research suggests he's a C prospect who profiles as a bullpen arm) starts against the Fish.

It's a luxury I wish we could afford.

We are kinda sorta doing that also
Hendrickson is pitching in a minor league game today and one could say to avoid using him against the Mets.

But probably more to the point, the Marlins want to leave as many innings available for Nolasco against major league hitters while Hendrickson continues to get his work in.

But if any Mets fan ask, the Marlins are hiding Hendrickson.
