Andrew Miller still learning

Andrew Miller is showing his talent, but is he ready?

A former first-round Draft pick by the Tigers, Miller has top-of-the-rotation talent. But he's not a fully polished performer, and at age 22, he is battling to win a spot on the Marlins' Opening Day roster.

"He did a lot better," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "There is a lot of talent there. We saw some good stuff out of him."

Here is what Mark Wiley had to say:

"He doesn't have his breaking ball going the way it will and his two-seamer either," said Wiley, after watching the left-hander allow three runs on six hits with a walk and a strikeout. "Early, he may not be a guy that's missing as many [bats] as you might think. When he gets his release on the breaking ball, it's going to make a monster difference."

Unfortunately, Andrew Miller is probably going to get on-the-job training to perfect his pitching.  As long as his self-confidence remains intact, he should be fine.

It's just unfortunate that he may end up in the rotation before he is truly ready.  The good news is that he isn't far from ready and it may all workout just fine.  Of course there will be a few bumps and bruises along the way.

Miller
I think the Marlins beat writer had the best idea I've heard. The Fish don't need the 5th stater until April 13th. Make Miller the 5th starter and send him to the minors to make a start or two. That's more time for him to work on his command without facing the major league hitters that have been making him pay so far.
