updates
4 more players were optioned or reassigned this morning... Barone optioned to AAA, Thompson, Tucker and Sinkbeil to minor league camp...

Oh, and Mitre went to see payrolled Dr. Andrews. Why don't we try to sign Lohse?

Dr. Andrews
I really think we should just require every new Marlins pitchers to have Tommy John surgery upon joining the team. It'd save time.

It would save time
the downside is that pitchers are only effective, on average, for about five years after having the surgery.

But then again, we don't seem to keep them around that long, so why not. :-)

No Volstad?
Magic box score says Gaby is pitching... hmmm...

by dan 2.0 on Mar 12, 2008 1:09 PM EDT   0 recs

I saw that
I noticed that on the press pass earlier. Volstad is scheduled to relieve Gaby, though.

Maybe this goes along with the Marlins whole "being extra careful with their young pitchers".

You're getting press pass?
Mine never kicks in until the start of the regular season.  Is there a secret I don't know about?

Don't think so
Not all of the teams are updating them but the Marlins has been. For example, today's is up. However, there are teams like the Dodgers that haven't updated it since the end of last season.

presspass
I came across the link to the press passes last week and was checking them from time to time, but I can't seem to find it now.

Got a link?

You can also get to it from the News section on the Marlins homepage.

Volstad
is in now... he came in  in the 4th. So far his line is 2IP, 1H,0R, 0ER, 1BB, 1SO.... but we're still losing...

by jrsyeagle on Mar 12, 2008 2:57 PM EDT   0 recs

and now...
treanor is out... but sounds like cramping and nothing toooo serious

by jrsyeagle on Mar 12, 2008 3:17 PM EDT   0 recs

Now we're winning
If this was the start of a competition for the 4th or 5th start spot, Volstad certainly made a statement today.

Maybin...
I like to see him hit for some power but at the same time I hope that doesn't make the team think he's ready for the majors.
