Chum Bucket

The whole site is down and dirty today since I have a few things I need to do.  I hate it when real life gets in the way of my obsession.

Oh, our good friends from Gaslamp Ball, Dex and Jbox, who apparently didn't have enough to do, have started another blog on the SB Nation: Uncommon Sportsman.

I would try to explain what the two are hoping to accomplish, but it would be better if you read the blog for yourselves.

I can, however, answer one of Dex's initial questions.  About a gazillion years ago when ESPN first started broadcasting, they didn't have they much content to put on the air.  MLB, NFL, NBA and all the college sports were then on the major networks, so they had to get creative with so little available to them.  One of their first major coups was landing the broadcast rights for the National Spelling Bee.  Which incidentally drew a much larger audience than the demolition derbys they were showing at midnight.

The National Spelling Bee was one of the first, if not the first, event to put ESPN on the map and it is why they show it to this day.  You know, dance with the one who brung you.

Check 'em out, those two are.....  Words fail me, just check 'em out.

Chum Bucket is ready for a Friday, so have at it.

And yes, Have a Great Day!

The spelling bee sucks big-time.
I can't freaking stand it, especially all local news coverage of the winning word, which, by law, must conclude with a smarmy anchorman saying something insipid like, "Wow, that's impressive...I can't even spell my own name!"

Likewise, I freaking hate the Little League World Series. Are there actually people in the world (other than parents of the players) who want to watch really shitty baseball? Should we demand pee-wee football coverage on ESPN, too?

I don't watch the spelling bee but
I do like the Little League World Series.  You can't beat the expressions on the kid's faces.
