New Radio Announcer Hired

The second chair in the radio broadcast booth has been filled and Glenn Geffner will be joining Dave on the air.

The Marlins filled their vacancy on the radio broadcast team, announcing Glenn Geffner would join lead play-by-play announcer Dave Van Horne in the booth. Geffner replaces Roxy Bernstein, whose contract was not renewed.

A Miami native and product of Miami Palmetto High School (1986), Geffner spent last season on the Boston Red Sox's broadcast team, calling more than 100 games. From 2003-2006, Geffner served as the Red Sox's vice president of communications.

After beginning his broadcasting career at Northwestern University, Geffner became the voice of the minor league Rochester Red Wings and later spent six seasons in the San Diego Padres organization (1997-2002) that included a stint as director of public relations and later a full-time broadcaster alongside Hall of Famer Jerry Coleman.

Geffner will be doing all the stuff that Roxy did.  The pre-game, post-game and calling some innings.

I don't know anything about Geffner but this Red Sox fan is happy to see him go.  And that means next to nothing.  Sports announcers are a funny thing, in that, they may be liked by most everyone, but there is always someone who can't stand them.

Personally, I like Dave Van Horne, others don't.  That is just the way announcing goes.

Anyway, welcome aboard Glenn.

I like Van Horne, too.
And anyone who doesn't obviously hates the Marlins, baseball and America.

I want Boog
I long for the days of Boog and Joe Angel.  I've said it before but without Joe Angel or Eddie Kaplan I wouldn't be a baseball fan today.

Van Horne is a Canadian.
Isn't that enough of a reason?

ok
so maybe he isn't Canadian, but I bet he loves the maple syrup.  I still don't like him.
