Ramirez Contemplating Surgery

Hanley, after yesterday's game, is once again contemplating shoulder surgery.

Shortstop Hanley Ramirez gave the Marlins a scare Monday when he grabbed his shoulder and fell down in pain after swinging at and missing a high fast ball.

---

Ramirez missed four games after partially dislocating the shoulder with a swing on July 22. He said he didn't hurt the shoulder that badly in his first at-bat Monday. After he was checked by team trainer Sean Cunningham, Ramirez shortened up his swing and doubled to the gap.

---

Ramirez won't play winter ball. Knowing that post-season surgery is a possibility, he said he at least wants to play all of the Marlins' final 24 games.

"It's the last month,'' he said. "I want to be in there with my teammates. You got to be tough right now.''

I don't remember Ramirez falling down but then again, I'm not exactly known for my keen observational skills.

Ramirez will one day undergo surgery on his shoulder.  If not this offseason, then possibly the next or maybe the one after that.  But it is going to happen.

I'm not sure that completing the season is all that important since the Marlins aren't in the playoff hunt and the team has called up Andino who should be able to fill in nicely.  Not to mention that Alfredo should be good to go in another day or two.  But if Hanley feels the need to play the final 24 games, fine.

Since he has already decided not to play winter ball, I would expect that he will be Alabama bound at the end of the season.  If you should happen to see Dr. Andrews motoring around Lake Purdy on a brand new yacht, the Marlins bought the boat.
