Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Brewers (5/31)

The Marlins road trip continues on with the next stop being in Milwaukee.  The Fish will play a four game set against the NL Central leading Brewers.

The starting pitcher for the Marlins is Wes Obermueller.

The Brewers will send Claudio Vargas to the mound of dirt in the middle of the diamond.

Game time is 8:05 p.m.

Obermueller performed decently in four of his five starts this season.  Unfortunately, his last start was atrocious, giving up 7 runs on 8 hits while walking 3.  He was a member of the Brewers from 2003-05 and has started in Miller Park 20 times.  In those starts posting a 6-5 record with a 5.07 ERA in the park.  Obermueller has never pitched against the Brewers before.

Vargas's last three outings are nothing to be proud of, in which he went 0-1 with a 7.04 ERA.  Vargas is prone to giving up the long ball.  He is considered to be the ace of the staff by many.  The Marlins faced him in JRS earlier this season and he went 5 IP and allowed 2 runs.

Ichthyomancy is a little different for this series.  Besides making your normal picks, you will also be making your selection to win the Sausages Race.  The contestants to choose from in the race are: Bratwurst, Polish, Italian, Hot Dog and Chorizo.  Your pick won't show up in the Ichthyomancy table, but it will count.  At the present time, Hot Dog has a substantial lead.

Here's today's Ichthyomancy pick table:

AAB pick
Neither pitcher has gone more than 6 innings in any of their starts this season.  Could it happen tonight? You betcha, but it probably won't.

If you don't mind, could you adjust your first selection.

Is the second selection, 2+ R in every inning or total?

Why?
Do we need someone to balk in the tying run in the late innings?

benitez
I've seen a couple articles that they are in serious talks with 2 teams, but none that say the deal is final. I can't think of any acceptable trade to justify that. Our bullpen is not the problem, the disabled list is our problem. Somebody needs to give sampson and beinfest or whoever else is calling for our farm system to be emptied in a trade for somebody who used to have the title closer a serious review/psychiatric examination/firing. It's just not fair to be a fan at this point.

by jrsyeagle on May 31, 2007 10:21 PM EDT reply actions

so
where'd you see its final?

by jrsyeagle on May 31, 2007 10:21 PM EDT reply actions

Oh, I see
Trading Messenger is a better move than trading Volstad, like that was the only two options.  Because the deal just had to happen.

They're idiots.

i can't believe this. while our front office has been ingenius with some trades over the years, they have officially gone from miserly to miserable. I need a change...
