The 2007 Andre Dawson Award

This maybe a most dubious honor which is bestowed by the writers of Home Run Derby and a Marlin took home the prize.

In case you don't know what the Andre Dawson Award is:

But the most fun fact about that MVP season is that Dawson was the first player in Major League Baseball history to win a league MVP award while playing for a last place team (the Cubs finished a staggering 18.5 games behind the Cardinals).  In 2003, Alex Rodriguez became the second man to accomplish this feat (with the Texas Rangers).

---

So, in honor of that special season, Home Run Derby presents the Andre Dawson Awards - given to the Most "Valuable" Player on a last place team in each League.   Because these guys deserve an award for having fabulous seasons while their teammates couldn't do anything to support them.

And the winner of the National League Andre is:

National League - MIGUEL CABRERA, Florida Marlins (71-91)

157 G, .320 Avg, .401 OBA, .565 Slg, .966 OPS, 34 HR, 119 RBI, 91 R, 30 WS

Personally, I think I would've chosen Hanley but Cabrera isn't a bad choice either.

I guess if the team finishes last there is something symbiotic about a Marlin winning the Andre Dawson Award.  Next year, I prefer to have a player win the real MVP instead.
