Last Night's Milestones

The Marlins players set some Major League milestones last night.

By turning in a quality start on Wednesday night, lefty Scott Olsen collected his 10th win and made himself a part of history.

---

Olsen (10-7) became the third Florida rookie to collect double-digit wins. Olsen, Josh Johnson (11) and Ricky Nolasco (11) are the first trio of rookies from the same team to win 10 or more games since Joe Black, Billy Loes and Ben Wade did so for the 1952 Brooklyn Dodgers.

---

Of that Dodgers trio, Olsen said he heard of Black.

Asked what comes to mind when he hears "Brooklyn Dodgers," the 22-year-old Olsen said, "Jackie Robinson. That's my first thought. Ebbets Field is my second thought. That's all I can tell you about them.

One can hope that Olsen isn't confusing Joe Black with Joe Black.  I'm mostly sure he isn't.

But that isn't the only record Olsen helped to achieve last night.  With his 2 RBI single in the second, the Marlins pitchers set the franchise record for RBI in a season at 26.  The previous record was 24 by the last year's team.

Olsen wasn't the only Marlin to be a part of MLB history last night.

Cabrera belted two home runs and became the fifth active player to reach 100 career home runs before age 24, joining Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr. and Andruw Jones.

The 100th, his second of the night, came in the fourth inning off reliever Chris Schroder.

At 23 years and 127 days, Cabrera is the sixth-youngest player in league history to reach that mark.

Cabrera continues to impress with the bat.

Cabrera is the sixth-youngest player in league history to reach that mark?

Are you kidding me?  And he's not even your classis homerun hitter, and he plays in a pitcher's park.  That's amazing.

The Man
I'd like to see what Cabrera could do in a more potent lineup and a better park.  He's a star and he still might be one of the most underrated players in baseball.  He's clearly the 2nd best hitter in the National League (behind Pujols).
