Marlins Acquire OF Cody Ross from the Reds

The Marlins added some outfield depth in trading for Cody Ross yesterday.

Ross, who has played this season for the Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers, will be added to the Marlins' 25-man roster today.

The 25-year-old native of New Mexico can play all three outfield positions but is light on experience. In 63 at-bats in the majors, Ross has 16 hits, including three home runs. He has 104 home runs and a .274 average in 710 minor-league games.

Beinfest said the Marlins have been interested in Ross for some time.

''He has some power from the right side,'' Beinfest said. ``And we think he's a smart player. I think we're in a situation right now where we're looking for young talent.''

Ross can play all three outfield positions.  He spent time on the DL this year when he was hit in the hand during an AB bruising his pinky.

In order to make room on the 25-man roster Chris Aguila was optioned to the Isotopes.  This isn't a bad thing.  Chris wasn't getting enough playing time and he has too much potential to just be riding the pine at this point in his career.  The move to Albuquerque should allow him to continue to hone his skills.
