Marlins acquire RP Ron Villone

The Florida Marlins have acquired relief pitcher Ron Villone from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Minor Leaguers Yorman Bazardo and Mike Flannery. This is an interesting pick up for the Fish as Villone can provide a veteran presence and is said to be able to make spot starts as well. Bazardo was said to be the Marlins # 3 prospect to start this year, but after a failed stint with the big league club earlier this year, he must have fallen out of favor with the organization. Does anyone know who Mike Flannery is?

Re: Marlins acquire RP Ron Villone
I think they said he was another reliever in the organization.

*snickers*

Okay, now if you want the non-smartassy answer, I think Rich and Tommy said he was their closer at Carolina. I don't completely remember, though.

Good move
Beinfest said he wanted to maybe get someone else for the bullpen and that's what he did. I think Bazardo's stock has dropped this year and it's not like we're exactly lacking SP prospects.
Flannery was the closer at Carolina.

Roster Move
Riedling back down to Albuquerque to make room for Villone.

Re: Marlins acquire RP Ron Villone
Wow, I didn't know who villone was, but I looked at his numbers and they look very nice, particularly against left-handers. The fact that he's in the AL where he tends to face better hitters makes me feel even better. I think he will really held solidify our bullpen, along with the return of Alfonseca. We have especially struggled with LHP relief, so this should be nice. I think now we have two legitimate LHP options in the bullben with Vargas and Villone, with Vargas available as a spot-starter. I know people were high on Yorman, but he didn't show me much. He may still become a good pitcher, but I feel good about what this does for our ballclub today.
