Derrek Lee
I'd like to preface this by saying this is in no way a complaint about Carlos Delgado.
Every sabermetric or logical argument would have concluded that Delgado was going to have a much better season offensively than D Lee. The same logic would tell you that he probably still will. I just want everyone to take a moment and admire what an amazing start to this season Derrek Lee is having.
I was always a very big Derrek Lee fan, but I would never have expected him to be completely carrying the Chicago Cubs at this point, and leading MLB in every meaningful offensive category.
Perhaps most amazing is that he is leading all of these categories after having a relatively quiet May, average-wise, where he batted only .313AVG/.424OBP/.646SLG. Yeah, that's an OPS of 1.07. That after hitting .419AVG/.490OBP/.767SLG. Yeah, that's an OPS of 1.257. Yeah, that's sick... in a good way.
I had the nice chance to watch him take a few AB's last night as they Cubbies took on the Dodgers last night on ESPN.
Wow. It was amazing. Check out his line:
5 for 5
1 HR
4 RBI
If you didn't get a chance to watch it, check out the highlights courtesy of MLB.
That's a javascript link, which I don't know how to use properly. So if it doesn't work, go here and click on Top Play.
He is definitely deserving of the Former Marlin of the Month award, two times. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure that if you ask Mike, he invented the award because of Derrek's April. If we're not careful, he may just sweep this year.
That is, if you don't count the domination of Mike's favorite former Marlin, Brian Meadows, and my personal favorite, Ryan Dempster.

D Lee's line from last night's game
3 2 3 0 2 .389
No one has gotten him out yet in June.
In June (2 games) he's hitting
1.000AVG/1.000OBP/1.375SLG which adds up to an easy 2.375OPS
Not bad. I truly hope that he does cool down before we face him.
