Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Phillies (10/4)
Breakout the brooms Florida because the Marlins are going for the sweep!
I'm about to type the saddest words known in the civilized world: this is the final game of the Marlins season.
Today we will crown a regular Ichthyomancy Champion.
Ichthyomancy is never ready for this game.
Best of Luck to You!

Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Phillies (10/3)
The Marlins are on Fox's Saturday game of the week where they will be looking to secure the series win. Presently the Marlins are tied for second in the division and obviously winning the final two games ensures a second place finish.
Anibal Sanchez takes to mound for the Fish. This will be Anibal's second start against the Phillies in less than two weeks. In the first one Anibal put together his best outing of the season going 8 innings allowing 0 runs. With Sanchez the issue has been control, when sharp he is very good. When not, he tends to walk everyone in sight.
Cole Hamels is on tap for the Phillies. Hamels hasn't had much luck recently against the Marlins losing both of his last two decisions. In both starts the long ball was his achilles heel. Hamels isn't expected to pitch deep into the game since the Phillies want their top of the rotation guys rested for the playoffs.
Ichthyomancy is good to go.
Best of Luck to You!

The Marlins are in Philadelphia to close out the season with a three-game set against the Phillies.
Rick VandenHurk is on the mound for the Marlins.
Joe Blanton gets the start for the Phillies.
Hanley gets the day off and Nick Johnson returns to the lineup.
And that is all you are getting from me since I need to get this thing posted.
Ichthyomancy is running into the classroom after the tardy bell screaming: Really, I'm here.
Best of Luck to You!

Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Braves (9/30)
Now that the Marlins are out of the playoff hunt the least we can do is win the series. When the Marlins win tonight's game, it will be first time since 2003 they have taken the season series from Atlanta.
Ricky Nolasco is our man on the mound tonight. Nolasco seemingly has caught his second wind and has pitched very well in his last two starts. Hopefully the trend will continue.
Javier Vazquez trots to the hill for the Braves. Vazquez is looking for his fifth win in his last five tries. He has been most excellent of late. However, he has had some problems with the hard hitting Marlins.
Ichthyomancy is most definitely sleep deprived.
Best of Luck to You!

Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Braves (9/29)
The Marlins are still in the Wild Card hunt. They can tie by winning the rest of their games, Colorado losing all of theirs and the Nats taking at least two from the Braves. Piece of cake.
Josh Johnson gets the start tonight. Really don't know what to expect from JJ. He is weak for having the flu and not mention he was already on a pretty tight pitch count due to the number of innings thrown before he got sick. We will see. I hope the Hopper is ready, just in case.
Tim Hudson is the starter of choice for the Braves. Hudson has pitched well since his return to rotation. He is not the Hudson of old but he is still pretty good.
Ichthyomancy is running way behind.
Best of Luck to You!

The Marlins are in Atlanta to play a three-game set. Basically the Marlins have to win out and hope for some help in order to make the playoffs.
Anibal Sanchez trots to the hill for the Marlins. Sanchez was great in his last start going 8 innings giving up 2 hits, striking out 7 and not allowing a run. He throw 110 pitches so we will see if that effects tonight.
Jair Jurrjens is on tap for the Braves. Jurrjens has been excellent for most of the season. Hanley and Danny have owned him in the past, hopefully they will again tonight.
Cody is not starting.
Ichthyomancy is hating Mondays.
Best of Luck to You!

Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Mets at Marlins (9/27)
The Marlins are going for the series win today. This is a very sad day, in that, today is the last regular season home game of the year.
Josh Johnson trots out to mound for the Marlins. Johnson is probably still on a tight pitch count. That said, for the time he is in the game, he should keep the Marlins in it.
Pat Misch is the starter of choice for the Mets. While the Marlins rocked the lefty earlier in the month that may not mean much today. It turns out he is a much better pitcher during day games and away games. Day ERA 3.09. Night ERA 7.92. Home game ERA 8.57. Away game ERA 3.29.
Ichthyomancy is far from ready for what is known as the closing game.
Best of Luck to You!

The Marlins need to start winning every game they can. Now, you may say this has always been the case, and you would be right. However, it is now an imperative.
Sean West strides to the hill for the Marlins. West had trouble concentrating in his last start. I guess that is what happens when send kids to the mound. Now, if he can learn to focus and bring along a decent breaking pitch he should be fine.
John Maine trots out to the mound for the Mets. Maine is coming off a shoulder injury which has reduced his velocity. Now if I am reading everything correctly, and there is no guarantee I am, throwing softer has increased the movement on his pitches.
Ichthyomancy is ready for the weekend.
Best of Luck to You!

Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Mets at Marlins (9/25)
This is the final home stand of the regular season. Typing that brings a tear to my eye. Anyway, if you always planned on catching a Marlins game at home but haven't done so already, time is running out.
The Mets are in town to play three.
Ricky Nolasco is on the hill for the Marlins. Ricky was simply brilliant in his last start going 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits, two of which were unfortunately solo shots, and striking out 10.
Tim Redding takes the mound for the Mets. Redding has regained his old form as of late. This will be the third the Marlins have faced him in less than a month.
So far nothing has gone right for me today, hopefully the game will change that.
Ichthyomancy is ready.
Best of Luck to You!

The Marlins really need to win the series.
By this point in the season, you know what who the pitchers are and what they can do.
Ichthyomancy is incredibly behind.
Best of Luck to You!
