Mike Stanton's name

2

From Joe Capozzi "Mike Stanton’s name-plate above his locker reads: "Giancarlo STANTON." Giancarlo is his birth name. But he plans to go by "Mike" — for now. Asked if using "Giancarlo" means that he plans to drop Mike, he replied: "Not yet. I just wanted it to be there, no specific reason. It’s my real name." Mike is his middle name. I hope he sticks with it, since I'm not sure I can pronounce his first name. But whatever he decides, we will do.

Marlins ignore Edward Mujica's mishap

+

From Clark Spencer "Edward Mujica insists there is nothing wrong with him physically, even though he's given up five runs in his two outings since slipping and falling on his pitching elbow on Sunday. The Marlins were aware of the previously undisclosed accident when they optioned Burke Badenhop to the minors on Tuesday... --- ...his metal spikes gave way while walking on the hard tile floor in the trainer's room, and he fell. Hard. Mujica said the full weight of his body landed on his right elbow, and his head slammed against the floor, causing some pain near the back of the neck." Oh, that is just fabulous.

Braden Looper retires

+

You remember Braden Looper, or at least you should. He was an important cog on the 2003 World Series team. Yeah, he was erratic, but still, he was one of the guys who made winning the Marlins second World Series Championship possible. Best of luck Braden.

Mike Stanton's eating habits

1

"Stanton fun fact. At 6-foot-5 1/2 and 250-pounds, Stanton is one of the most imposing players in the game. The 21-year-old's eating habits also are becoming legendary. Recently, he requested triple meat on hist fajitas. A midnight snack Stanton enjoys is cereal. He actually likes to mix up his cereal, and his favorite combo is Captain Crunch and Fruity Pebbles. He drinks two-percent milk." As my grandfather said: If you are going to work a mule, you have to feed it." I never really understood all of my grandfather's sayings. Nonetheless, mixing Captain Crunch with Fruity Pebbles. Dude? I guess if it works for you, have at it. But still....

The Hardball Times asked Five questions about the Florida Marlins

+

Ben Pritchett does a pretty decent job of answering the questions. You should give it a look see. But I will say this, he is completely wrong about Ricky Nolasco and Anibal Sanchez. They are better pitchers than he is giving them credit.
