Since he didn't formally start throwing before last night's rain delay, Henderson Alvarez will be on the mound for the Marlins. In his last start against the Phillies, Alvarez went seven innnings and didn't give up a run while walking two and striking out three.

When the Marlins faced Washington on the first road trip of the year, Alvarez went five and two third innings and gave up three runs (one earned) while walking two and striking out four.

Washington decided to skip a spot in the rotation, so instead of Blake Treinen, the Marlins will see Jordan Zimmermann. In his last start against the Pirates, Zimmermann went six innings, giving up four runs while walking two and striking out four.

G. Stanton - RF Jayson Werth - RF
Casey McGehee - 3B Adam LaRoche - 1B

A. Hechavarria - SS Nate McLouth - LF
H. Alvarez - RHP J. Zimmermann - RHP

Miami will turn to the same lineup they planned to use Tuesday night against Jordan Zimmermann. Giancarlo Stanton and Casey McGehee were both solid in the first game of the series, and Garrett Jones has recently been productive from the five spot.

Kevin Frandsen gets the start at second base for the Nationals, who scored just twice against Nathan Eovaldi on Monday.

Notes

-Will Alvarez keep Miami in the game? Alvarez has been inconsistent at times, but with command of his offspeed pitches should be able to handle a Nationals lineup without Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman.

-If called upon, will the bullpen execute? With Carter Capps being placed on the disabled list, the Marlins' already youthful bullpen got even younger.

Bold Prediction: Nationals def. Marlins 6-1
