MLB Scores: Miami Marlins 1, Milwaukee Brewers 7

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Marlins could not get close against the Milwaukee Brewers in the series finale, as Randy Wolf was smashed by his former team and the Fish eventually suffered a 7-1 loss.

The Miami Marlins were aiming for an outing by starter Randy Wolf, who had not made a Major League start since 2012, that would at least keep them in the game. Instead, Miami found themselves in a blowout within the first two innings, and rookie starter Jimmy Nelson kept the team completely off-guard en route to an eventual 7-1 loss.

Wolf got off to an awful start right at the onset. After a bunt groundout to start the first inning, Ryan Braun, Jonathan Lucroy, and Carlos Gomez each blasted floating curveballs hard into the outfield for two doubles and a singe respectively, driving in two early runs. The Brewers picked up three runs in the first before Miami could figure out the last two outs of the inning.

The problems only continued in the second and third innings. Wolf once again ran into issues with the top of the order; Ryan Braun tripled in another run and Lucroy drove him in with another double. The Brewers tacked on a sixth run of the game off a Khris Davis double followed by a Martin Maldonado single.

Braun had four hits in five plate appearances and actually was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle by the sixth inning, but he failed to get the home run needed.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Nelson dominated the Malrins' offense despite the fact that he was wild over the plate during the course of the game. Miami only managed five hits against Nelson, the majority of which came from the bottom of the order and with the game well out of line. The Fish had two opportunities with two or more runners on board and the chance of putting some runs on the board, but the Fish did not finally get on the scoreboard until the ninth inning, when Marcell Ozuna hit his ninth home run of the season.

The Fish will make a quick trip to the nation's capitol to face the Washington Nationals before returning home for another series.
