The Miami Marlins are riding high following a surprising three-game sweep and drubbing of the Atlanta Braves in Miami. Now they entertain another contender for the National League crown, the deep-pocketed Los Angeles Dodgers and their cadre of former Marlins. We face off against a former Marlins starter tonight when Josh Beckett returns to face Tom Koehler.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | Dodgers | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4.69 | 4.67 | 2.97 | Koehler | Beckett | 2.45 | 4.26 | 3.85 |
Beckett makes his return to Miami again for another start, this time as a supporting player in a loaded Dodgers rotation. Tom Koehler has been hot enough to keep his ERA down, but he has yet to have more than one legitimate start this year. In his last start, he gave up four runs in five innings with two strikeouts and four walks in an eventual 4-0 Marlins loss to the Mets.
Lineup
The Marlins have been red-hot on offense and just finished pummeling the Braves to the tune of a 23-7 run advantage over three games. The team has been hitting homers at an unexpected pace, in large part because of Giancarlo Stanton's normal start and the decent swing of additions like Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Garrett Jones. Can they keep it up against Beckett?
Notes
- I'll be around for tonight's contest, who's with me?
- Can the Fish stay hot against another National League contender? The team is still trying to prove that April was meaningful, and beating the Dodgers would go a long way to helping that reputation.
Bold Prediction: Dodgers def. Marlins 6-3
