The Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves square off for the first time in the 2014 season, as the two team's meet each other on relative hot streaks. Miami is coming into it off of a sweep of the Seattle Mariners and would like to parlay that into further success with Tom Koehler on the mound. Braves ace Julio Teheran will counter that tonight on the hill.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | Braves | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4.66 | 3.97 | 1.89 | Koehler | Teheran | 1.93 | 3.83 | 3.50 |
Both pitchers have surprisingly similar numbers, but one just came off a Rookie of the Year candidate season, while the other came off 143 mediocre innings. No one will confuse Teheran with Koehler, but the early numbers have been good for both. Neither is striking out batters either, which is a surprise for the Braves righty.
The lineups are reflective of what each team has been doing. The only odd question is why Derek Dietrich is on the bench for a third straight game. Teheran is not a difficult lefty, but in fact a right-handed pitcher. Is this Mike Redmond issuing some punishment for an up-and-down on-field performance?
Also, Chris Johnson, gang. #funpolice
