Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
L 1-2 vs. Memphis Redbirds
Bryan Petersen, CF: 3-for-4, 2B
Brad Hand, SP: 7.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Bryan Petersen had half of his team's hits, as the Zephyrs and the Redbirds engaged in a low scoring pitchers duel on Thursday. Carlos Martinez struck out nine Zephyrs, but Brad Hand kept his team in it until the end. New Orleans falls back to .500, at 70-70 with the defeat.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
W 4-3 vs. Mississippi Braves
Chris Gutierrez, 2B: 3-for-3, 2B, RBI
Andrew Heaney, SP: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
In just his sixth Double-A start, Andrew Heaney struggled a little against a potent Braves lineup. Nonetheless, he seemed to be in control of the game, needing only 83 pitches to go six innings. If Heaney does get another start this season, I'd like to see him get seven innings of work.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
W 12-3 vs. St. Lucie Mets
Ryan Fisher, 3B: 3-for-4, 2 RBI
Angel Sanchez, SP: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Jupiter had a whopping twenty baserunners in one of their higher scoring games of the season. Ryan Fisher, Alfredo Lopez, Sharif Othman, Ross Wilson, and Wilfredo Gimenez all drove in two or more runs. Angel Sanchez was also solid on the mound, generating seven flyball outs in only five innings of work.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
W 4-3 vs. Hickory Crawdads
Avery Romero, 2B: 1-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI
Austin Dean, RF: 1-for-3, HR (1), RBI
Daniel Oliver, SP: 7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 12 K
Avery Romero and Austin Dean, the two Greensboro newcomers, both went deep in the Hoppers 4-3 win against Hickory. Daniel Oliver had one of the finer starts from a control standpoint of any Marlins prospect this year, striking out 12 and walking none in seven innings of work. Greensboro falls to 64-70 with the defeat.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
L 5-6 @ Williamsport Crosscutters
J.T. Riddle, 3B: 2-for-3, 2B, RBI
Ryan Newell, SP: 5 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
Batavia lost to Williamsport on Thursday 5-6. Ryan Newell struggled in what could have been his last start of the season. J.T. Riddle and Javier Lopez had two hits apiece.
Rookie: GCL Marlins
L 1-4 @ GCL Mets
Carlos Duran, 1B: 3-for-4, HR (1), RBI
Tyler Kinley, SP: 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
The GCL Marlins continued their woeful season, this time losing to the Mets. Carlos Duran, who is hitting .257/.298/.374 in 174 plate appearances on the season, had three hits.
