The Miami Marlins were coming into this game thinking that they had a chance with Jacob Turner pitching against a Brandon Beachy who is just coming back from Tommy John surgery. It turns out Turner was trying to get all of his home run numbers back to normal, as he gave up three long bombs in just five innings. Two of the homers came in the first inning, as Justin Upton took a 1-2 pitch deep to left field and, just three batters later, Chris Johnson drove three runs in with a blast to center field. Two innings later, Brian McCann continued his parade of big hits against the Fish by hitting his 17th homer of the season as well.

Outside of the homers, Turner struck out five batters and walked three, with just two intentional. He also hit a batter, which did not go well with the Braves' side. In the first inning, after Johnson's three-run homer, Turner threw a fastball too high and inside at Dan Uggla, plunking him in the elbow. Uggla took offense and there was a bit of an argument, getting both sides warned. Nothing came of it afterward.

The Marlins probably wished they had some retaliation taken on them, because they were having a hard time getting on base. The Fish had just four hits, two of them by pinch hitters Juan Pierre and Koyle Hill. The team also only drew one walk against Beachy, who struck out six in eight innings with just three hits allowed. The offense looked awful all evening, and as a result, the Fish took one of their more complete losses of the season.
