Fish Cap: Miami Marlins 1, Atlanta Braves 7 (F/14)

Steve Mitchell

The Marlins battled their way through thirteen innings, but Atlanta got to Chris Hatcher in the 14th.

Braves Bullpen Stifles Fish

Atlanta probably has on of the best bullpens in the National League. Still, that's not an excuse for how the Marlins fared against Braves relievers on Monday night. Against the six Atlanta relievers they saw, the Marlins only managed two hits and not a single run, across almost seven innings. The Marlins were the main reason this game went fourteen innings; they simply couldn't manage to get runners on-base. And once runners were in scoring position, Miami was a disgusting 2-for-10 with twelve players left on base.

Hatcher Gets Lit Up

In his 2013 MLB debut, things could not have gone much worse for Marlins 28-year-old reliever Chris Hatcher. After a Justin Upton double scoring two, the floodgates burst open and the Braves scored three more runs. Hatcher didn't seem to have his command, walking three and missing Catcher Rob Brantly's locations repeatedly. After the game, Hatcher was demoted back to Triple-A New Orleans.

Tomorrow, the Marlins will get another chance to best their division rivals. Henderson Alvarez will take the mound for Miami, and Julio Teheran will start for Atlanta. Hopefully, Alvarez can work deep into the ballgame, giving the Miami bullpen some much needed rest.
