Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
L 1-3 vs. Palm Beach Cardinals
Brent Keys, LF: 1-for-4, RBI
Justin Nicolino, SP: 6 IP, 9 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Despite a whopping nine hits allowed, Justin Nicolino managed to only give up one earned run in six innings of work. Jonathan Rodriguez, a Palm Beach first baseman, hit a two-run go-ahead home run off of Pete Andrelczyk in the top of the ninth to give the Cardinals the lead.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
L 7-10 vs. Lakewood Blue Claws
Yordy Cabrera, 3B: 2-for-3, BB
Viosergy Rosa, DH: 1-for-4, HR (19), 2 RBI
Chad James, SP: 4 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Chad James struggled in his third rehab start for Greensboro in their loss to Lakewood. The fact that James, a first-round pick in 2009, is having problems working back to High Class A Jupiter, where he spent the previous two seasons is far from encouraging. Last year, I felt like one of a very few group of people who believed in James becoming worthy of that first-round pick. Now, I'm starting to think that I was foolish to hold on to the belief that James would put things together for so long. Chad James is a Marlins prospect that I want to succeed as bad as any, but the chances of that are becoming slimmer day by day. On the bright side, Viosergy Rosa hit his 19th HR, which is the most of any prospect in the entire Miami organization.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
L 3-10 @ Jamestown Jammers
Austin Dean, LF: 2-for-4, 3B
Avery Romero, 2B: 2-for-4, 2 RBI
Max Garner, SP: 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
In Batavia's 3-10 loss to Jamestown, Austin Dean hit his fifth triple of the season. I have touched on this before, but since when did Dean, a 2012 fourth-round pick, turn into a triples machine? Dean, 19, is second only behind Christian Yelich in triples in the organization this season, despite having only 74 plate appearances. This is even more impressive considering Dean didn't have a single triple in 182 plate appearances in the GCL in 2012. Austin Dean is one of those prospects in the Marlins lower minors that I'd pay to see a recent scouting report on. Also from this game, Max Garner, a 2013 18th round pick out of Baylor, pitched well, as he has all season for Batavia. In just 13 professional innings, Garner has a 1.38 ERA and only two walks.
