The Miami Marlins struggled to find any rhythm on either side of the ball against the St. Louis Cardinals. Jacob Turner, in something of a homecoming start for the St. Charles, Missouri native, struggled in the first three innings against the Cards. The first inning was a foreboding sign, as Turner allowed back-to-back doubles by Matt Holliday and Allen Craig to start the Cardinals with a 1-0 lead. The Marlins at least fought back in the top of the second with a leadoff solo homer by Logan Morrison, his third homer of the season.

The third inning brought the remainder of the bad news. Turner and the Marlins were buried in hits, as the Cardinals started the inning with two singles and a double by Holliday that drove in a run. Turner was almost out of the inning with only two runs until Matt Adams delivered a two-out double that drove in the Cardinals' fourth run.

The final tally for Turner was that he allowed seven hits, all in the first three innings. He recorded seven straight outs before issuing his only walk of the night, but otherwise had a clean three innings after the rough start.

On offense, the Fish were completely shut down outside of the home run by Morrison. The Marlins only managed three hits against Jake Westbrook in seven innings, but the team did not strike out or walk once in those seven innings. Then Trevor Rosenthal and former Marlin Edward Mujica came in and struck out five Marlins en route to an easy 4-1 win.
