Miami Marlins Daily Minor League Report: July 23

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Brian Flynn struck out nine batters in seven and two-thirds scoreless innings pitched, while Brent Keys and Austin Nola walked a combined six times.

Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
L 0-1 @ Iowa Cubs

Full Box Score

Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3B: 1-for-4, 2 SO
Kyle Skipworth, C: 0-for-4

Brian Flynn, SP: 7.2 IP, 3 H, BB, 9 SO

Brian Flynn made perhaps his best start in months. He could have lasted eight innings, if it weren't for the fact that he walked the potentially winning run into scoring position. Jonathan Albaladejo got the Zephyrs out of the jam, but they ultimately lost in the next inning to walk-off single.

Double-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
Game postponed

High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
L 2-3 @ Clearwater Threshers

Full Box Score

Brent Keys, LF: 1-for-3, 3 BB, SO
Austin Nola, SS: 1-for-4, R, 3 BB

Josh Hodges, SP: 7.0 IP, 5 H, R, ER, BB, 3 SO

The top two hitters in the Hammerheads lineup each walked three times and singled. Unfortunately, their successors failed to drive them home. Cleanup hitter Austin Barnes went hit-less in six plate appearances. Jupiter ultimately lost in a 13th inning walk-off.

Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
W 3-2 vs. Hagerstown Suns

Full Box Score

Colin Moran, 3B: 1-for-4, SO

Chad James, SP: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 7 SO

Chad James achieved season highs in both walks and strikeouts, lowering his season ERA to 5.84. The 22-year-old and former first round pick would be age appropriate for Double-A baseball.

Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
L 0-7 vs. Jamestown Jammers

Full Box Score

Avery Romero, 2B: 1-for-3, SO

Max Garner, SP: 2.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, BB

The Muckdogs were shutout by last year's Marlins affiliate, the Jamestown Jammers. The Jammers are now the short-season affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Rookie: GCL Marlins
L 2-7 @ GCL Nationals

Full Box Score

K.J. Woods, LF: 0-for-2, 2 BB
Iramis Olivencia, 2B: 0-for-1, R, 2 BB

Gabriel Castellanos, SP: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 5 SO

Gabriel Castellanos did not have a good night. In addition to walking four batters in just two innings of work, the 19-year-old left-hander also made two costly errors.
