Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
W 11-0 @ Oklahoma City Redhawks
Kyle Jensen, RF: 1-for-4, HR (5), 3 RBI
Gorkys Hernandez, CF: 3-for-5, RBI
Brian Flynn, SP: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
New Orleans rolled over Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Brian Flynn was the true superstar, twirling seven stellar shutout innings. Perhaps this is made even more impressive by considering that this was Flynn's second consecutive start against a talented Oklahoma City ballclub. New Orleans improves to 46-48 with the victory.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
W 6-1 vs. Mobile Baybears
Michael Main, RF: 2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI
Bryan Evans, SP: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
In his first start since May, Bryan Evans only needed 68 pitches to turn in five three-hit innings. The Suns had a big four-run fourth inning to give Evans some support. Also of note from this game, Noah Perio stole just his second base of the year. Once viewed as a major threat on the bases (Perio stole fifteen bases in 2011 for Greensboro), Perio has been far less aggressive on the bases in the past two seasons.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
W 6-2 @ Fort Myers Miracle
Austin Nola, SS: 2-for-3, 2B, BB
Angel Sanchez, SP: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
In his first start for a Marlins affiliate, newly-acquired Angel Sanchez looked very impressive against Fort Myers. For a pitcher that is coming from the Cal League, Sanchez is probably thrilled to be playing in less of a hitter's environment. It will be very intriguing to see how he fares once he starts facing teams for the second time in Florida. Austin Nola reached base three times to help the Hammerheads score six runs.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
W 3-1 @ Lexington Legends
Yordy Cabrera, 3B: 1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI
Austin Brice, SP: 6 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K
Austin Brice turned in by far his best start of the season, striking out nine over six dominant innings. Yordy Cabrera hit a timely double in the first inning that proved to be all the run support the Greensboro pitching staff needed. Greensboro improves to 44-45 with the win.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
W 1-0 vs. Vermont Lake Monsters
Austin Dean, LF: 2-for-4
Trevor Williams, SP: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Avery Romero hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to drive in Carlos Lopez from third in Batavia's only run in their 1-0 win over Vermont. Trevor Williams, the Marlins 2013 second-round pick out of ASU, finally seemed to settle down and pitch more comfortably in his third professional start.
Rookie: GCL Marlins
L 0-7 @ GCL Nationals
Ron Miller, 1B: 1-for-3
Jorgan Cavanerio, SP: 4 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
The GCL Marlins lost to the Nationals, but Jorgan Cavanerio, a Venezuelan teenager pitched well in his four innings of work. Cavanerio, who also saw time with last year's GCL Marlins, could be seeing a promotion to Batavia in his near future if he can continue to prove himself.
