Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
W 7-2 vs. Nashville Sounds
Duane Below, SP: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
New Orleans crept to one game over .500 with their 7-2 win over Nashville on Monday night. Gorkys Hernandez had a huge day at the plate, instigating the Zephyrs offense with four hits, including his third home run. Hernandez is now hitting .275/.330/.351 in 251 plate appearances for Triple-A New Orleans in 2013.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
L 0-12 @ Mobile BayBears
Jake Marisnick, CF: 1-for-4, BB, SB (10)
Sam Dyson, SP: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 2 K
Sam Dyson had a rough outing that culminated in Jacksonville suffering a 0-12 loss to Mobile on Monday. Jacksonville falls to 38-35 after this boring, ugly loss. On the bright side, Jake Marisnick did steal his tenth base of the season.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
L 3-7 @ Charlotte Stone Crabs
Andrew Heaney, SP: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
Despite a solid outing from Andrew Heaney, Jupiter's bullpen gave up four runs in the eighth inning in their 3-7 loss to Charlotte. In Heaney's six starts this season, he has not gone over five innings once. It would be nice to see the Marlins let him try to work deeper into the game by the time his next start comes around. Also of note from this game, Brent Keys had his third multi-hit game in the last four days.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
W 11-10 vs. Asheville Tourists
Jesus Solorzano, CF: 1-for-4, HR (8), 2 RBI
Yordy Cabrera, 3B: 2-for-4, 2B, HR (12), 3 RBI
Cameron Flynn, LF: 2-for-4, 2B, BB
Mason Hope, SP: 4 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Frankie Reed, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, SV (9)
Greensboro gave Mason Hope some much needed run support Monday against Asheville. Jesus Solorzano and Yordy Cabrera both hit homers to power the Grasshoppers offense. Frankie Reed, who has a 0.54 ERA, pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his ninth save.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
L 3-7 @ Williamsport Crosscutters
Luis Ortiz, 3B: 3-for-4, 2 2B, RBI
Austin Dean, LF: 1-for-4, 3B (4), RBI
Avery Romero, 2B: 2-for-4, 2B
Jarlin Garcia, SP: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Gabriel Lino and the Williamsport Crosscutters proved to be too much for Short-Season Batavia on Monday. On the bright side, Luis Ortiz and Avery Romero both had big days at the plate. Austin Dean, the Marlins 2012 fourth round pick, had his fourth triple of the year. For a big guy, that's odd but very impressive. Nonetheless, he's still only hitting .161.
Rookie: GCL Marlins
L 1-4 vs. GCL Nationals
Juancito Martinez, CF: 1-for-3, SB (1)
Domingo German, SP: 5 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Domingo German had a solid start, but the Marlins offense could never start clicking in Monday's loss to the Nationals. German, a projectable 20-year-old from the Dominican Republic, might be ready for a promotion to Batavia. He pitched in the GCL last year as well and posted tremendous numbers. If he continues to pitch like this, the Marlins will have no choice than to promote him to Batavia.
