The Miami Marlins are scoring runs. Jacob Turner has looked decently impressive in his first few starts with the Fish, to the surprise of everyone involved with the team. Giancarlo Stanton is back out there everyday and mashing home runs.
What's not to love about the Miami Marlins right now?
The Fish head into this three-game series versus the Arizona Diamondbacks perhaps in their best shape of the season, but they face a tough challenge tonight. Turner will take the hill versus Patrick Corbin, who has been excellent all year.
Pitching Matchup
Proj Win% | Proj ERA | FIP | ERA | Marlins | Diamondbacks | ERA | FIP | Proj ERA | Proj Win% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
.398 | 4.91 | 2.81 | 1.80 | Turner | Corbin | 2.28 | 3.05 | 4.07 | .487 |
Corbin was, once upon a time, just a "nice" prospect coming back from the Dan Haren trade. Now he may be an anchor for this Diamondbacks rotation. Turner was once an elite prospect coming over from the Detroit Tigers. Now, a lot of folks think of him as a "nice" pitcher at best in the majors. It's a battle of the oddly-rated's tonight in Arizona, but there is no denying that both pitchers have pitched well thus far, although Corbin has been around all year.
Lineup
Order | Player | Proj wOBA vs. LHP |
---|---|---|
1 | Juan Pierre | .284 |
2 | Ed Lucas | --- |
3 | Giancarlo Stanton | .417 |
4 | Marcell Ozuna | .327 |
5 | Logan Morrison | .325 |
6 | Adeiny Hechavarria | .291 |
7 | Placido Polanco | .296 |
8 | Jeff Mathis | .272 |
9 | Pitcher | --- |
The Marlins have to be happy getting Marcell Ozuna and Logan Morrison back into the lineup, but why is Justin Ruggiano on the bench against another left-hander, and why is Juan Pierre playing? Ruggiano's last game went fairly well, as he put up two hits in the finale versus the St. Louis Cardinals.
Notes
- I'll be around for a little tonight, but I will also be studying a good deal during Late Night With the Fish.
