Boy, where do we start on this one?
The Miami Marlins take the series loss to the tune of a 10-1 spanking at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers, and the game got that bad early in the game. The Brewers loaded the bases in the first inning with one out against starter Kevin Slowey and Jonathan Lucroy delivered all the runs the Brewers would need with his bases-clearing triple.
Unfortunately for the Marlins, Milwaukee did not stop there. After a relatively clean second inning, Slowey gave up a home run to Jean Seguera in the third and consecutive runs in the fourth and fifth inning to put the game all but out of reach for the Marlins by the fifth inning.
Despite the struggles with hits (Slowey allowed nine), he was able to at least keep up a nice streak of strikeouts and no walks. Slowey whiffed six batters in his five innings and walked none, working on the performance he provided on Saturday afternoon out of the bullpen. Unfortunately, the timely hits provided by the Brewers kept Slowey in trouble all evening.
The Marlins were no better on offense versus Alfredo Figaro, who looked like Greg Maddux against the Fish. He struck out four batters and walked none while giving up just three of the team's five hits. He also did all of this one just 88 pitches thrown, which makes the Marlins look foolish. The Fish got five hits, but they were all singles. The team's lone run came off of consecutive fielder's choices to score Justin Ruggiano, who was not even in the game but scored one of the five hits.
The Marlins have an off day tomorrow before continuing their home stand in a three-game set versus the St. Louis Cardinals.
