The Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies will play out the second of a four-game weekend series tonight, with the Marlins sending out "ace' Ricky Nolasco in the hopes that he fares better than Alex Sanabia did last night in the Marlins' 7-2 loss.

Pitching Matchup

Proj Win% Proj ERA FIP ERA Marlins Phillies ERA FIP Proj ERA Proj Win%
.457 4.34 3.69 3.82 Nolasco Pettibone 4.35 4.47 4.91 .398

The Marlins are sending a surprisingly successful Nolasco, but one who also currently has his worst SIERA and xFIP (ERA estimators that regress actual performance based on peripheral statistics) he has posted since 2007. My trust level of Nolasco is not very high.

The rookie Pettibone seems pretty impressive in the early going. He has made two starts and has a 22.7 percent strikeout rate and a 4.6 percent walk rate. He is a former third-round draft pick for the Phillies from 2008, and he has a 3.44 career ERA in the minors. He also never struck out more than 17.6 percent of batters he has faced in a full season, so he is not likely to keep up this performance.

3 Placido Polanco .278
4 Greg Dobbs .286
5 Justin Ruggiano .312
6 Marcell Ozuna
7 Rob Brantly .304
8 Adeiny Hechavarria .274

The Marlins are sporting the same lineup as last night! Almost, as they switched Marcell Ozuna and Rob Brantly thanks to Brantly's struggles in the last week. Or something. I don't know, this lineup is also very bad, so what does it matter?

- I will be here for around half of the game before heading out. Do keep the seat warm in my absence Fish Stripers!

- This will be the first game with famed Marlins killer Matt Diaz on the bench. Diaz could see some platoon play time versus lefties in place of Juan Pierre.

Bold Prediction: Marlins def. Phillies 5-3
